Yalobusha Review accepts submissions year-round. Our submissions are always free, but paid submissions are welcome in our βtip jar.β Our contests, the Barry Hannah Prize for Fiction and the Yellowwood Poetry Prize, open annually in the spring.
General Guidelines:
We only consider submissions through Submittable.
All submissions should include a cover letter (the shorter the better) with titles of submissions, a brief author bio, and any relevant contact info.
YR does not consider previously published pieces.
Simultaneous submissions are not only permitted but expected. Please notify us immediately via Submittable if a piece is chosen for publication elsewhere.
Response time can take up to six months. Please do not query if your work has been under consideration for less than six months. We will only consider one submission per author per genre at a time, so do not submit additional work until a decision has been made regarding your current submission.
All rights revert to authors upon publication.
Poetry Guidelines:
Please submit three to five poems, all in the same file. Acceptable file forms include .doc, .docx, and PDF.
Fiction Guidelines:
Please submit one short story up to 4,000 words, or up to three short pieces less than 1,000 words each. If submitting three flash pieces, please include all of the pieces in one file. Acceptable file forms include .doc, .docx, and PDF.
Nonfiction Guidelines:
Please submit one essay up to 4,000 words, or up to three micro essays less than 1,000 words apiece. If submitting three shorter works, please include all pieces in one file. Acceptable file forms include .doc, .docx, and PDF.
